June 10:
Our governor recently signed into law the online marketplace called the “Exchanges” as a precursor to Obamacare. I strongly believe this is premature. Valuable resources, especially budget dollars, will be spent discussing, designing, and implementing a system, all while we wait for a decision from the Supreme Court which could invalidate all or part of the Federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
July 1:
We now know the decision of the Supreme Court to uphold the patient affordability and protection act. It is now the job of the OIC to ensure that Washington residents have as many options and price choices as they deserve. I will work tirelessly to eliminate the barriers insurance companies face when trying to compete in Washington, by streamlining the approval process companies face when doing business here; We all know the consumer wins when there is a more competitive market.
